A Gleeful Noise?

I started watching "Glee" through Hulu ('cause they're aliens). As a consequence, I now have the song "Gold Digger" stuck in my head. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I've never heard the original version of the song. And I've only heard the "Glee" version once. Do you know what version is stuck in my head? The Weird Al polka version. Over and over.

[EDIT] Decided to go ahead and listen to the Kanye version. Had a strong urge to interrupt it halfway through to inform him that the Glee version was better.

Happy 9/9/9!

Last night on a whim I decided to try making a 999 icon for today in Photoshop based on the 666 icon I have, and then I sort of went forward and tried experimenting with After Effects a bit. Then I fed that back into Photoshop to create an animated gif. I decided not to bother to try to make it small enough for Livejournal icons. That's often a very frustrating journey.

It's not perfect, but it's cute.

And then I fed that into Pro Tools and made a quick 10 second theme.

I find this all rather neat, but it's frustrating that I've spent the past couple of weeks trying to come up with a logo for my web page and have so far failed, yet this just popped up and I did all this in a few hours. So apparently I can pretty much do anything if I'm inspired to do so. Too bad I don't get inspired much.

Specialized Knowledge

Every once in a while I come across something that I thought was common knowledge but actually turns out to be some bit of esoteric knowledge that only I know. Sometimes it's cool, sometimes it makes me feel strange and inadequate.

Today coworkers were talking about what they would want to do for their weddings--just passing time, you know--and I mentioned that I'd like the Tower of Power horns there. And they looked at me like I was crazy. "The what?" And for a moment I thought I'd made up their existence. But no, they're real. So I wonder if it's an age thing, or a subculture thing, or what. Am I just getting old?

So I need to ask:

Poll #1433673 Tower of Power

Have you heard of the Tower of Power?

It's time for Musical Magic 8-Ball!

If you'd like to play along, put the iPod/mp3 player/music library/etc. on shuffle, and shuffle to the next song for each answer.

Don't cheat and keep shuffling; post the first song that comes up, no matter how silly!

For mine, I added a Youtube video where I could find one.

How does the world see me?

Sesame Street – C is for Cookie

So...the world sees me as a confection-obsessed monster?

Quick Hits

Benjamin Zander: Classical Music With Shining Eyes

Why the American pilot of "Life On Mars" failed.

Speaking of Mars, let's start a garden up there!

I'm going to hell for not being able to get this song out of my head.

Because of [info]alteredsenses, I'm now aware of The Sims Onstage. It's basically a site where you record your own karaoke and others vote on it! Dude! I'm so there! In fact, I'm Auryn there. One of them, anyway. I just joined so I don't have anything there yet. But keep watching!

Hehe. This is nifty! Come join me! ([info]scsuehle, I'm looking at you!)

Oh you can also record poetry if you like, or prose or skits, and there's a webcam feature.

A-Rock-A-Lypse

I was talking to some friends this past week about the state of the world, and I made a comment that it's apparent now that the world is changing, and these corporations, the fabled Powers That Be, seem to be grabbing as much power and money as possible before the paradigm completely shifts. And it's not just in one area. It seems to be in every aspect of life things are coming to the proverbial head. And suddenly I thought of Bob Dylan's song, "The Times They Are A-Changing." It got stuck in my head.

So eventually I pulled out my guitar, found a tab, and started playing it, but it didn't feel satisfying. I pulled up Rhapsody and found every version I could of the song and played it, but that didn't feel satisfying either.

You know what I need? I need a version of the song as though performed by Kamelot. Something like this. Call me crazy, but that would be perfect right now. hmm.

Another Random Find

This is Powerglove. Besides having a very annoying web page, they're an instrumental power metal band. Strangely, their Myspace Page is less annoying.

They have an album called Total Pwnage.
And also another album with a less humorous title called "Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man."

...I really don't think further comment is needed.

o/` Blaspheme...Blas for you... o/`

I was looking through Rhapsody today while gaming, trying to find an interesting version of "Ace of Spades," preferably by a female singer, when I spotted one particular band that immediately got my attention. Why? Their name was (wait for it...) Jesus Christ. And I knew without even clicking on the song that it would be death metal. I blinked for a moment, making sure I read that correctly, and just said, "...Damn."

This is not at all subtle. They were obviously not content to have a slightly satirical or humorously blasphemous name like Ludachrist. No, they decided to pick a name guaranteed to offend just about everyone in this country. Not only that, but they also guaranteed that any sort of Google search on their name would be impossible. So, thumbs-up for church-bell-sized balls, thumbs-down for intelligence.

Their music? Not bad. Not terribly good, either. At least the little bit I managed to listen to during gaming. They seem to do mostly covers. If anyone knows anything about this band, let me know.

In my not so intensive youtube searh, I did manage to find a couple of interesting things, though, not linked to the above band:

Jesus Christ Metal Star
Jesus Christ Prog Star

Neat! I wonder if I can find those performances on a DVD somewhere.

Songs In My Head For the Past Week

"Que Sera, Sera" by Doris Day
"All My Loving" from the Across the Universe soundtrack
"Back On Planet Earth" by Ayreon
"Life On Mars" sung by Barbra Streisand

And they keep weaving in and out of each other when I'm trying to sleep.
