From the guy who continues to bring you those cute Marvel vs DC videos, here's this brief primer on Hellboy...sort of. I don't normally say LOL, but I totally LOL'd. In fact, I would've ROTFL'd, but I have better balance these days.

<lj-embed id="26" />

Writer's Block: In the Shoes of an Extravagant Restaurant Owner

Waiting for Hellboy

I can't wait for Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and things keep reminding me of it. Neil Gaimain just posted pictures from the set of the movie in his blog. And while I was reading that and drooling, this came on TV:

<lj-embed id="25" />

Also, I have cherries and you don't! Probably. Possibly.

Writing Prompt: Pick a Song

This is a freewrite based on a writing prompt from a writing community.

The song I chose for this freewrite was Rasputina's "Christian Solders." The lyrics are at the end of the story.

Warning: So far two people were rather disturbed by the story. So I just want to emphasize that it could be triggery.

Father Tertius pulled the brass tank on wheels through the narrow wooden door, chipping a piece of the door frame on the way. Mr. Tallow, being the owner of the door frame, and indeed the one-room house surrounding the frame, winced.
Father Primus checked the restraints binding Mrs. Tallow and nodded to himself.
"Father, are you sure this is really necessary?" asked Mr. Tallow again.
"Absolutely, my fine fellow. Your wife will soon be right as rain."
"Well, that's just it, you see. I don't--"
"Father Tertius, prepare the syringe," intoned the older priest with a voice that was used to giving orders.
"Yes, Father Primus," mumbled the young priest in a voice that was resigned to following orders given by others.
"Please. Please let me go," begged the bound woman with tears in her eyes. "Richard, how can you let them do this to me?"
"It's all right, darling. They're priests. I'm sure they--"
Father Primus whirled around and waggled his finger at Mr. Tallow. "Do not talk to the possessed! Demons have ways of twisting the mind and compelling you to do wicked things!"
Mr. Tallow looked down at this shoes, scuffed and caked with mud and other things. "Well, sure, I understand that. But it's just that--"
"Ready, Father Primus," said Father Tertius, holding a large brass syringe connected to the tank.
Father Primus nodded. "Mr. Tallow, if you would please lift the gown of your wife."
"Don't you dare, Richard!" threatened Mrs. Tallow. "Don't you see what's happening?"
"You know," said Mr. Tallow, staring at the brass syringe, "I'm still not very sure about this."
"Father Tertius, help Mr. Tallow, please."
Father Tertius handed the syringe to his superior and stepped to the bed where the struggling and cursing Mrs. Tallow lay face down. He sighed, crossed himself, and grabbed the edge of the woman's gown.
"Richard! Do something, you stupid, sniveling man! Mother told me not to marry you! But I thought you had such sweet eyes. My mother said they were the eyes of a sheep! And she was right, Richard!"
Mr. Tallow turned away as Father Tertius exposed the woman's backside.
Father Primus approached the bed. "You may want to stand back, Mr. Tallow. What happens next is often...explosive."
"Richard! You better pray they never untie me!"
Father Primus cleared his throat. "Father Tertius. Hold her open, if you would, please." The young priest hesitated. "Father Tertius! We are doing the work of the Lord! Now hold that woman's buttocks open!"
Father Tertius did so, slowly, as the woman screamed and struggled.
The older priest lifted the syringe high above his head and, in his loud commanding voice, said, "Pater noster, qui es in cælis, libera nos a malo!" With a dramatic downward stroke he drove the syringe home.
The scream from the woman shook the wood of the small house and deafened Father Tertius for a moment. Father Primus had to physically pry his shocked hands away from the woman's buttocks and point to the tank. The younger priest nodded and went to the tank to begin pumping.
As Father Tertius pumped the holy water and the woman screamed and writhed, Father Primus spoke and shook sage around the woman's body.
"Amen," said Father Tertius, still pumping.
Father Primus listened to the woman's screams for a moment, then began to recite again. In the middle of the second recititation, liquid began to spray out around the syringe, coating the sleeve of the priest in water and fouler things. Father Primus continued until the woman's screams turned into gurgles. He motioned for Father Tertius to stop.
There was silence in the house for a moment. Only the stream of water from the holy violation could be heard pouring onto the dirt floor. Then Mr. Tallow said, "Well, what now?"
"If your wife is strong, she'll survive," said Father Primus.
Mr. Tallow looked at the body of his wife, wet and soiled and still. He shook his head and started to approach her. Just then a volley of violent coughs sprang from the body on the bed. The bed shook from the strength of the coughing. Mr. Tallow knelt by his wife and stroked her hair. He whispered and cried and begged forgiveness from his wife as she coughed up water and bile.
Father Primus nodded, removed the syringe, and handed it to Father Tertius. "Our work here," announced Father Primus to the house around him as though he were speaking to a congregation, "is done!"
Mr. Tallow looked up angrily, eyes red with tears. "'Ere! Hang on! What about my daughter?"
The priests looked at each other. "Your daughter is possessed, too?" asked Father Tertius.
"There's no 'too' about it. She's the reason I sent for you!"
As he said that there was a loud unholy howl that wrapped itself around the fear centers of the priests and squeezed. The howl fell into a rattling laugh that sounded only slightly human.
Mr. Tallow nodded his head towards the source of the sound. "She's tied up out back."
Father Tertius looked at Father Primus. "I...I suppose I better fill up the tank again."
Father Primus agreed. "Yes, I think you better. I believe this is going to be a long night."

Rasputina – Christian Soldiers

The medevial exorcists used
a 20-gallon Brass syringe.
A 20-gallon brass syringe
filled with holy water.
A 20-gallon brass syringe
filled with holy water
which they put into,
into the anus
of the possessed.
Television Wisdom?

I was thinking last night/early this morning that television shows have gotten juicier recently. There's more meat to them, more things to think about and absorb. I'm not talking about reality shows. And I guess I'm not talking about the majority of shows out there. Just the ones I happen to be watching. So maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I started thinking about the shows I watched growing up and wondered what lessons they taught me. I started noting the individual lessons or themes I walked away with after watching certain shows:

The Tomorrow People: Pacifism is the way of advanced species.
Highlander: Never fight on holy ground.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Friends are more powerful than any magic.
Angel: You mess up, life goes on. The story doesn't end. There's no reset button. You just work with what you have.
Firefly: Give power to your dream and keep flying.
Macross/Robotech: Ideas, stories, and music are more powerful than guns.
Battlestar Galactica (the new series): <s>Humanity is screwed.</s> Actually, pretty much the same as Macross. In fact, the plot's pretty similar. Huh. I never thought about that before.
Babylon 5: Gods have their own agendas. Take your destiny into your own hands.
Jeremiah: Humanity is indeed screwed. But somehow they'll survive.
Justice League: Continuity is awesome! Also, Batman can sing! And he can still kick your ass.
Fraggle Rock: Music is everywhere and everyone has a song.
Animaniacs: It's okay to be silly. (No, really. That was an important lesson for me.)
Neverwhere: Angels are freakin' scary! Also, I want to be the Marquis de Carabas when I grow up.
Thundercats: It sucks to suddenly be an adult.
My Little Pony: Having a tattoo on your backside can look pretty spiffy. Also, who needs opposable thumbs?
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Teenagers are whiny. Also, be careful what you wish for. And life is only as you know it for a short amount of time.
Doctor Who (the old series): Humans are stubborn and often stupid. The military has no imagination. Being mathematically excellent is only good when you have a non-Cyberman-blasted terminal in front of you. Being able to talk your way out of any problem is an incredibly useful skill to have.
Doctor Who (the new series): Live life to the fullest extent possible. Make mistakes, say the wrong things, and learn from it. Also, bananas are good!

What others can you think of?

Curse you, Moffatt!

After watching Doctor Who 4x09, "Forest of the Dead," I'm rather in need of a cuddle.

Gah!

Faces. I'm really vulnerable to messed up, distorted faces. So I really didn't need to see under that veil. That bothered me more than the Vashta Nerada (however you spell it). And the whole concept of saving people like that just goes right back to thinking about what makes up consciousness. That's not really River <s>Tam</s> Song in there. It's just a saved copy of her brainwaves and memories. (But isn't that all we are anyway?) All the doctor did was save a computer simulation of this woman and all her friends.

As a stutterer, that ending really broke my heart. I have nightmares about that sort of thing. Pan's Labyrinth affected me the same way. I have that fear that one day I'll need to say something very important in a small amount of time and simply won't be able to get it out. So, yeah...thanks for that, Moffatt. Bastard.
Memoribilia

So I was putzing around the web, as you do, when I came across an interesting item on eBay: A very pretty bra worn by Sarah Michelle Gellar on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." And it's not expensive. Yet. Too bad I don't know anyone small enough to fit it. babysuehle maybe.

I then found this: A replica stake. Yes, that's right. A replica of a sharpened stick. Who buys this?

Youtube video of Hitler reacting to the end of season 2 of Torchwood.

If you know any German at all, it's probably very stupid. But for those of us who never took a German class, it's freakin' hilarious.
